The focus of this cooperation is to increase the efforts and measures to promote responsible fishing practices and to combat Illegal Fishing through the establishment of a hotline communication, mutual information exchange and capacity building activities.In addition, the cooperation also includes the application of the precautionary principle in sustainable fisheries governance, including ensuring the flow of fish and fishery products to the global market."Exploring every possibility of joint initiatives and to strengthen cooperation with other governments and international organizations to combat Illegal Fishing and promote sustainable fisheries governance", said Susi.On the occasion, Susi also appreciated the participation of the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Tourism of the Republic of Palau Y.M. Fleming Umiich Sengebau which had a positive response to the suggestion of the Minister of Susi to raise the cost of fishing permits in order to increase the amount of foreign exchange.
"This is in line with the high cost of marine resources and fisheries as well as the decline in the stock of fisheries resources", he said.The meeting is considered to be very strategic in the effort reflects the commitment of the countries in the region to apply the principles of traceability of fishery products as well as within the framework of improving dialogue in the region in applying the principles of traceability and efforts to combat Illegal Fishing.
In fact, Susi also invited Palau to collaborate in order to eradicate IUU fishing in the Asia Pacific region.
