Oke News-According to the organization's website,
NORAD has tracked Santa every
Christmas Eve since 1955. That year, the story goes, a young boy trying to call Santa from a number listed on a department store advertisement accidentally phoned up
Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Operations Center -- a predecessor of NORAD -- in Colorado Springs, Colo. Recognizing the error, the operations center director assured the boy that the air defense center would guarantee Santa's safety during his flight.
CONAD thus began the tradition of reporting Santa's location to the public -- a tradition that rolled over to NORAD in 1958. Now, NORAD's interactive Santa tracker can be accessed by computer or smartphone. "
NORAD Tracks Santa" -- as it's officially called -- is also rendered in 8 different languages and the website offers games, videos and information about Santa and NORAD. Anyone with an OnStar subscription can also ask the operator to locate Santa, NORAD's website says.

It's a GPS-esque satellite map that follows Santa in flight over the world, and aside from honing in the camera on Santa the tracker also keeps a running tally of how many gifts St. Nick has given so far tonight. As of this story's publishing, Santa had delivered over 4.5 million gifts and was cruising over the Atlantic, headed for Greenland. At some point, he'll surely wind his way down to New Orleans.
Parents, take heed! You can regale your kids tonight by joining them in keeping track of St. Nick's movements Christmas Eve as he cuts through the night sky with his team of flying reindeer, courtesy of the North American Aerospace Defense Command's "Santa tracker."
